The Wiregrass Ranch High School will be hosting its first annual ice breaker rehearsal on Thursday, May 26th from 5:30 - 7:30pm

All members and potential new members of the 2011 - 2012 WRHS band should plan on attending. Bring your instrument and comfy clothes. This will be the first meeting of the next years band!

The purpose of an “ice breaker” rehearsal is to allow old and new members a chance to get a head start and get to know each other before the summer begins.

This is also a great chance to try something new if you’ve never been in band before.

Parents, we will also be distributing paperwork and information regarding band camp and the dates/times for the upcoming fall football/marching band season.

The band boosters would like to thank all of the band/guard seniors for your hard work and dedication to music over the last four years. These are memories that will last a lifetime!

As was done in the past two years, the band boosters would like to offer 5 scholarship awards in the amount of $500 to five different band/guard seniors who have exhibited the qualities of leadership, dedication, scholarship, and musicianship over the past four years.

In order to be considered for one of these awards each band/guard senior must have the following qualifications:

1. Current on all fees and fair share monies
2. All inventory items are turned in and are in good working order
3. Complete the essay
4. Complete the scholarship application

The WRHS band and orchestra have just returned from a very successful trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. In addition to have a great time, the band and orchestra came home with two first place trophies. Also winning a special award for excellence was the cello section.

The students and staff of the WRHS music program would like to thank the parents who gave up their time to accompany us on this adventure. Without your hard work and dedication, this trip would not have been possible. We would also like to thank the countless number of people who have worked behind the scenes over the last few months getting all of the necessary logistical and financial items in order.

Thank you all for memories that will last a lifetime!

Congratulations to the winter guard for your performance at the FFCC state championships.

The guard earned a silver medal as well as the highest score in school history for their performance at this year’s state finals. In the history of the WRHS winter guard, we have earned 3 medals in the past four years... one gold, two silver.

As you may have noticed, the calendar looks a bit different. This is because the service that we were using has changed a bit. Not to worry, the calendar information is the same. Gatlinburg Trip Information

We will be having a parent meeting on January 27th from 7pm - 8:15pm to discuss details and information related to the Gatlinburg trip.

Anyone wishing to attend MUST make a deposit by the meeting. January 27th is the final “drop dead” date for deposits. In order to secure transportation, hotels, and other logistical items associated with the trip, we CANNOT wait until the last minute to take care of these things.

At this point, we are looking to fill at least 28 more seats on the buses. The rationale being; empty seats on a bus cost just as much to fill as an occupied seat. Also, we want to show off the quality of the music programs here at Wiregrass. It’s much more professional to have a full ensemble (band, chorus, orchestra), than one in which people are missing.

Winterguard audition results

Everyone that tried out for the WRHS winter guard program did a tremendous amount of hard work! The following students have been selected through a careful audition process.

The first rehearsals will take place from December 1 - 3 from 2:30pm - 5:30pm. The following week(s) will be on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday fom 5:00pm - 8:30pm.

All of the required paperwork and calendars will be distributed at the first rehearsal. These will include a Member Agreement, Power of Attorney (for medical use when parents aren’t available), media release, and trip permission. Those students who participated in The Marching Bulls (band or guard) only need to sign the member agreement (parent must also sign if the students is under 18).

All other students interested in performing with the winter guard will be listed as “alternates” and will be allowed to audition (or re-audition) for a spot should one become available. In the event that a spot becomes vacant, the person taking that spot will be expected to commit to the same requirements as the other members. All alternates are invited to attend practices as well as to take the Eurhythmics class offered here at Wiregrass Ranch High School.

If you are 18 years or older - you can volunteer for the Band at Raymond James Stadium Events

First step: Since alcohol is served - there are VERY STRICT rules to follow so an online 'Alcohol Training' sponsored by Levy Restaurants MUST be completed before being eligible to work in concessions. The online training goes through the rules, and then a multiple choice test is given at the end. You will email me the test results to me through the testing website at: WRHSBandBoosters@yahoo.com I would also like a personal email to this address stating that you did the test. If I don't receive the results - you may have to do the training over.

Open House

I hope to see all of the parents here at open house this Tuesday, September 14.

Due to having open house, the brass and woodwinds will NOT be having rehearsal.

Percussion and guard plan on being here from 5 - 8 pm for a sectional rehearsal. Parents of guard and percussion students, plan on getting your child’s schedule in advance so that you can go to their classes and meet with their teachers.

Band Shoe Information!!!

An order form for band shoes (dinkles) has been distributed today during all band classes. This is for brass/woodwind and percussion members only.

Please make sure that you fill out this form and return it on Monday with a check for $25 payable to "WRHS Band Boosters" (or cash)

This order needs to be done soon so we can have the shoes in time for our first game.

Football games and rehearsals.

Because of the fact that the WRHS stadium is being used by our JV football team as well as the JLMS football team, the band will modify their rehearsal schedule when those teams have home games.

The modified BAND rehearsal schedule is as follows:

3pm - 6pm - Thursday, September 2nd and 9th
3pm - 6pm - Tuesday, September 21st and 28th

3pm - 6om - Thursday, October 7th
3pm - 6pm - Tuesday, October 26th

We will also be going to the following away games:

September 10th at Zephyrhills High School
September 17th at Wesley Chapel High School
October 29th at River Ridge High School

A detailed schedule of for football games will be given in class during the week of each game/band competition.

Well, after all your hard work during the two weeks of band camp, YOU DID IT! The opener sounded very good and the drill was amazing! I can’t wait to see the show at the end of the season when we really have it polished. You should all have the music for the closer.... The ballad will be handed out on Tuesday in class.

Pasco County Schools will be closed this Friday... This means that no one will be allowed on campus. Rehearsal will NOT take place Friday, July 30th. We will resume on Monday from 8am - 5pm.

The guard and percussion sections are looking to fill a few spots.

Any student wishing to play snare drum or tenor drum (quads) should plan on being at the band room on Wednesday evening (July 14th) from 6pm - 8pm. This section will be with Josh... since he’s writing a large portion of the percussion book, he’ll be here to help teach the necessary techniques to play his music.

If you’re interested in joining the COLORGUARD, please plan on attending the practice/“try-it-out” with Cory on Saturday, July 17th from 10am - 4pm.

Though dance experience is not required, it would be helpful if you have some background in dance (even if it were a few years ago).

Please bring a lunch and wear clothes that you can dance in.

The most important thing you can bring is a good attitude and a willingness to try new things! We can promise that you’ll have a great time and learn lots of new things while still working hard. Bring a friend or two!!!

Band camp 2010

Band camp dates and times are:

July 28 - 30: 5pm - 9pm
August 2 - 6: 8am - 5pm
August 9 - 13: 2pm - 8pm (these times may be adjusted as necessary, as always adequate notice will be given)

Parents: these are rehearsal times, we need to be PRACTICING during the listed times. As such, students need to arrive a few minutes EARLY to set up equipment, etc... Also, we typically practice until the last minute so they may need time to put their equipment away and clean up. Plan on this when planning drop-offs and pick-ups.

Every student suffers if ONE student is late or absent.

To the graduating class of 2010, thank you for all of your hard work, dedication and sacrifice. You are the foundation of this music program since starting your high school career in a set of portables behind Weightman Middle School. Those days were tough since you were thrust into a position of leadership when other students your age at different high schools were just getting their feet wet, so to speak. It is a great testament to your character that you stepped up to the plate to become the people you are today.

Any institution of higher education, or employer would be lucky to have one of the graduating members of the 2006 - 2010 music program.

The WRHS Band Boosters are proud to announce that they will again be offering scholarships to seniors who are graduating from the WRHS band program. There will be four scholarships awarded this year in the amount of $500 paid directly to the winners.

The selection board will be using the following criteria to select award winners:

1. Completed online application

2. 500 word essay on “How has participation in band or guard prepared me for college or the workplace?”

3. Student must be in good standing with regard to their “fair share” during the marching band/winter guard seasons.

4. Student must be in good standing with the school regarding any disciplinary issues.

All materials are due Sunday 5/23 by midnight. Winners will announced at the banquet on the 24th.

Trip to the Florida Orchestra

The WRHS music department will be going to see the Florida Orchestra in concert on Friday, April 30th. Cost for the trip is $20 per student. That $20 gets you a seat on the bus and a ticket to the concert. Please have the money in by this Friday, April 23rd. All checks should be made out to “WRHS Band Boosters”

The itinerary is as follows:

4:00 - Arrive at WRHS
4:30 - Depart WRHS on buses
5:00 - Arrive at International Plaza for dinner (bring money)
7:00 - Depart International
7:15 - Arrive at the Straz Center (Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center)
8:00 - Concert
10:30 - Arrive back at WRHS

All of these times are subject to modification. Please continue to check this site. More information will be given during classes.

Parents, chaperones will be needed for this trip. If you are an approved volunteer please consider coming along. Chaperones’ tickets and bus transportation will be free.

Why the new look...

So you might be wondering why the change to WRHSmusic.com... Well, in the interest of making things as efficient as possible I have decided to create a new site based on a sleeker, more modern format. All of the elements of the old site are here, but may look a bit different from what you were used to.

The most notable change is the forum... While we’re still running the familiar “Simple Machines Forum”, it’s now part of the main site. Due to a database/server transfer, the old forum is essentially gone. This means that you will all have to register a new login name. Since we’re starting fresh, we’re going to take the opportunity to fix a few quirky problems that we’ve experienced. Most notably, the issue of “login” names.... from now on, everyone needs to use their real first and last names as their login (for example: “John Smith”). As soon as you login, try posting a few items.

For those of you who have never used the forum, please take the time to familiarize yourself with its use. It’s a great way to communicate with other band students, parents, and staff members in a moderated environment.

Winterguard wins SILVER!

The WRHS winter guard recently earned the silver medal at the state finals competition on March 27. We are all very proud of all of you!
WRHS has won medals in two divisions over the past three years. All of the students in the WRHS winter guard have worked extremely hard this season. The sacrifice that each student has made for the success of the team has made a huge difference. Congrats again on your accomplishments!
