Preview day three 4/29

The third edition of the AP Music Theory preview featured the concepts of Key Signature and Melodic intervals.

You may reference the circle of fifths at any time while studying these concepts.

Intervals:

When determining intervals, always find the “generic” interval first... that is, figure out if the interval is a fourth, fifth, second, etc.... Do this by counting the number of letters used (including the first and last letters). This is done without regard to any accidentals

After you figure out what the generic interval is, move on to the specific interval... that is, Major, minor, Perfect, Augmented, or diminished.

You do this by counting the number of half steps in the interval (here you use the accidentals given). Note, you do not count the first note as “1”. The starting note is always “0” half steps.

For example, C4 to G#4 would be a generic “fifth” and a specific “Augmented 5th”
